Politics AS/A Level at Hazelwick School

Course description

Politics is stimulating, challenging & rewarding because it is part of our everyday lives & expectations & because of its close relationship to contemporary issues, events & problems.  Current affairs, ranging from Trump election victory, rights, freedom, equality & justice, political scandals, gun culture in the USA etc.

This course equips you with the communicative skills & knowledge of contemporary issues which are highly valued by leading universities & employers alike. 

This course will appeal to you if you enjoy debating current affairs, like doing a subject that affects your daily life & is ever-changing, like to make up your own mind, want to improve your analytical skills.

Course content

You will learn how to develop critical awareness, what the structure of power are within the political system, rights & responsibilities of individuals, how to develop critical awareness, an understanding of different political viewpoints, how to develop communiction skills to argue a case. 

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in History, English Language or English Literature

Assessment

Component 1 - UK Politics

Component 2 - UK Government

Component 3 - Politics of USA

Future opportunities

Politics provides an excellent foundation for a numbere of careers including journalism, media, business & law.  It also providfes a useful contrast for thos students taking Mathematics or Science based subjects who want to study a broader range of subjects at A level & a subject that will give them a greater knowledge of current affairs.
