BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Law at Brigshaw High School and Language College

Course description

The BTEC Nationals in Applied Law have been developed within the business and legal sectors to provide opportunities for full-time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally-specific qualification to enter employment in the legal sector or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 5 BTEC Higher National in Business (Law) or a Foundation Degree in Business and Law or on to a law honours degree giving learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life and to allow access to employment opportunities in the legal sector.



Course content

Year 1: Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the English legal system. This includes exploring the sources of law in England and Wales, introducing substantive law and application in criminal and civil law.

Year 2: Students focus on the application of law in criminal law with property offences and fatal offences, including police powers. Student study one type of private law either family law or tort law and apply their knowledge to scenarios.


There is a majority of internal assessment coupled with externally assessed exams and controlled assessment.
