Course description

The performing arts are all about being creative –having a creative voice, an outlet for expression and a medium in which individuals and society can communicate in different ways.

Course content

You will have the option of specialising in dance or drama, although you will be required to take some classes in both specialisms to broaden your skills.This course will equip you with a range of skills to become a part of the next generation of professional performers. From dance skills to acting techniques, musical theatre and movement for actors, this course provides a plethora of experience and learning.

Mostly practical and vocational in nature, experienced staff empower students to develop their communication skills and appreciate the range of methods used in the assessment of work. Units could include:

• Musical theatre

• Physical theatre

• Performing arts business

• Devising theatre

• Major performance

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: English 4 and maths at 3 or above, and 3 other GCSEs grade 4 or above and a successful audition.

Assessment

With public performances (for example, plays and dance showcases), internal assessments (for example, audition and technique workshops), and research and evaluation written assignments.

Financial information

As a full time student you should not need to pay any course or examination fees (under 19).

There may be a cost for equipment, educational visits, printing etc.

Future opportunities

A higher education degree in performing arts, drama theatre or dance or studying at a drama school or dance college.

You could enter employment in theatre or dance companies, teaching, stage management, arts administration, directing, writing, producing, choreography or many other roles in the creative industries.
