Course content

Year 1

The Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate is the equivalent to one A' Level.

Three mandatory units must be completed plus two optional units to achieve the

full qualification.

Compulsory Units

  • Body systems and the effect of physical activity. Eternally assessed exam(1hr 30 minute paper).
  •  
  • Sports coaching and activity in leadership. Internally assessed assignment.
  •  
  • Sports organisation and development. Externally assessed exam           (1hr paper).
  •  
  • Plus two optional units which are internally assessed assignments.

Entry requirements

Five or more GCSE qualifications at grade C (equivalent) or above including English

and Science at grade 5.

 

Course Length:-

Two Years. Students will be assessed throughout Year 1 through internal assessment,

mock exams and, where available, external exams. Students need to demonstrate

strong performance in all assessments to gain entry to year 2

Assessment

40% exam / 60% coursework.

 

Assignments are internally marked and externally moderated. Exams are set by

ORC and are exterbally marked. Studends are awarded an overall grade at the

end of the 2 years. They will receive either a pass, merit , distinction or

distinction*

Course description:

This qualification is not just about being able toplay sport, it will provide

learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to porgress into Higher

Education on a sport-related programme such as Sport and Physical Education,

Sport Science, Sport Coaching and Development or Sport and Leisure

Management.

 

The units will give learners and understanding of sport within the wider contexts

of coaching and leadership, anatomy and physiology and the body's short and

long term responses to physical activity., Learners will also develop

transferable skills such as planning, communication, adaptability and

leadership.
