English Literature A Level at Manshead CE Academy

Course description

This is a stimulating and inspiring course that encourages students to study a variety of texts across the spectrum of time. The focus of this course is the analysis of fictional texts, enabling students to develop their own interpretation skills as well as to contemplate and study the views of critics. To succeed in this course it is essential that you enjoy reading a range of texts. You will be someone who enjoys debating ideas and not be afraid to challenge the writers’ approaches and established ways of thinking about texts.

 Othello
 Pre-1900 poetry anthology
 Atonement (prose)
Year 13:
 A Streetcar Named Desire (drama)
 The Handmaid’s Tale (prose)
 Feminine Gospels (poetry)
 Non-examined assessment (NEA): 2500
word essay comparing two texts

Entry requirements

Grade 4 or higher in: Language and Literature
