Physical Education A Level at Manshead CE Academy

Course description

The PE course is based on the interaction between the theory and practice of Physical Education. The majority of the course involves applying the varied theoretical aspects to the performer and performance. Part of this course is practically assessed; therefore the performer must currently participate in a sport to an appropriate level.

Course content

Year 12:
 Applied anatomy and physiology
 Exercise physiology
 Skill acquisition
 Sport and society
Year 13:
 Biomechanics
 Sports psychology
 Contemporary issues in physical activity
and sport
 Performance or coaching of an activity
 Evaluation and analysis of performance
for improvement

Entry requirements

Grade 4 or higher in PE or Level 2 Merit in Sport BTEC. If students did not study GCSE PE, they require a Grade 4 or higher in GCSE Science.

Future opportunities

The specifications provide an excellent foundation for candidates intending to pursue further education or careers in sports marketing, sports psychology, sports science and medicine, sports journalism, sports training, officiating, coaching and education.
