Course description

Course Outline

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years.

You will explore the physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social development of children from birth to five years. You will develop the skills and knowledge needed to work under supervision with children and their families in a variety of childcare settings. These could include primary schools, day nurseries, children’s centres or pre-school. Through practical experiences you will develop effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Entry requirements

C-E at GCSE including Grade C in English and Maths


You need to complete 16 units to pass the qualification. All units will be assessed by your tutor and CACHE. All units will be assessed using a range of methods. A major part will include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE.

Future opportunities

CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care or the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce.

Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sector, such as: • Nursery assistant • Classroom assistant • Pre-school assistant
