Applied Sport & Physical Activity (Sports Coaching Route) OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate at Bingley Grammar School

Course description

Are you/do you… Do you enjoy playing sport? Do you enjoy working with young people? Do you want to improve your leadership skills and apply these skills to a variety of situations? Are you a good communicator?  Do you want to learn how the body responds to exercise?  Do you enjoy working in a practical environment?

Course content

You will complete units in

  • Body Systems
  • Sports Coaching
  • Practical Sports
  • Sports Development
  • Sports Psychology

As part of the course you will also complete a variety of coaching awards including:

  • Rugby Ready
  • First Aid
  • Duke of Edinburgh

As part of the course all students will be coaching primary school pupils weekly as part of their on-going assessment.

OCR Sport and Physical Activity is a vocational course. You will be assessed using a variety of methods, including formal exams, projects, case studies and practical assessment.

Financial information

Ideally students should purchase a course "hoodie" to be worn for external visits.

Future opportunities

This course develops skills that are important for employment and higher education both in and out of the sports sector; you will develop your leadership skills, communication skills and time management. If you are considering a Sports related course at University this is the course for you. Many students go on to Higher Education, following routes such as Sport Coaching, Sports Development, Sports Science and Sports Rehabilitation.
