Level 2 Qualifications at Hugh Christie School and Sixth Form

Course description

About the Course

This is a one year course aimed at students who are not suitable for Level 3 qualifications. It consists of a range of subjects to help students develop further so they can access further courses or training elsewhere at a later date.

GCSE English and Maths Retakes

The course provides students with the opportunity to resit their GCSE English and Maths to try and improve their grades.

Employability Skills

Students will study five of the following areas:

· Understanding and assessing their own skills or personal attributes for work

· Learning about managing money

· Preparing for a reflecting on a job interview

· Completing job searches

· Providing personal information to employers, e.g. CVs and application forms

· Health and safety in the workplace

· Work placements and work-related tasks

Other Subjects

A range of life and community skills will be delivered. The exact subjects will be dependent upon timetabling and the needs of individual students. These subjects might include:

Work Placement

Students will spend two days per week on a work placement. Students are encouraged to organise this placement themselves, but the school will support where needed. All work placements will need to be health and safety checked by the school.


Course content

Students will study the following seven units:

· Career exploration

· Opportunities for learning and work

· Applying for a job (CV writing, application forms and preparation for interviews)

· Overcoming barriers to work

· Health and safety in the workplace

· Customer service

· Managing personal finance as an employee

Entry Requirements

Students will need to have 5 x GCSE subjects with Grades 1 to 3.
