Design & Technology A Level at Park High School

Course description

Design and Technology A Level is an inspiring, rigorous and often practical subject. The OCR exam board have worked closely with Universities and industry to ensure that the direction of the qualification supports students at university, college and in the work place.

Course content

There has been a focus on ensuring the content reflects authentic practice, giving insight into the way that creative, engineering and/or manufacturing industries function

Entry requirements

Entry criteria required to enrol onto this course:

Grade B or above at GCSE in the specific Product Design Subject Grade 5 for GCSE English Grade 4 for GCSE Maths

Assessment

Unit 1 - Principles of D&T - Formal Exam (1hr and 30mins) - 26.7% weighting

Unit 2 - Unseen Challenge - Formal Exam ( 2hrs and 30mins) - 23.3% weighting

Units 3 & 4 - Iterative Design Project - Non-exam Assessment - 50% weighting

All fields of Engineering including: Civil, Building, Materials, Bio-Materials, Automotive, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electronic, Computer Systems, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Management, Design Engineering All fields of Design including: Product, 3D, Interior, Fashion, Textiles, Footwear, Communication, Set Design, Environmental. Also courses such as Sports Technology, Architecture, Digital Technologies, Robotics There are a growing range of apprenticeships available particularly in Engineering fields.
