Art and Design: Fine Art A level at Davenant Foundation School
What will you learn in Year 12?
You are given the opportunity to develop new skills in areas which include drawing and painting, printing and 3D studies. You will be encouraged to explore a range of techniques and approaches. We believe observational drawing is a primary skill students should develop and you will learn how to record from first hand observations. Emphasis is also placed on experimentation and development of ideas. You will learn to reflect purposefully on what you have made and understand how your work relates to the broader world of art and design through independent research, gallery visits and group discussion.
What will you learn in Year 13?
Themes at A Level are broad-based and encourage a personal approach. You will learn how to research a personal starting point. In Year 13 you will be asked to develop a critical study in which you will research an area of art that interests you. The course provides excellent preparation for students wishing to progress to art college.
5 GCSEs including English Language and Mathematics at A*-C, (or 4-9).
B grade (or level 6 or higher) at GCSE in Art.
Students wishing to continue with Art and Design apply for Foundation Courses prior to progressing to a specialised degree course in a related field. Studying Art and Design can lead to careers in Architecture, Interior Design, Art Administration, Theatrical Design, Television and many more.
