Sociology A Level at Myton School

Course description

If you are interested in the people and the world around you then this may be the course for you. If you think that it is unfair that some have nothing whilst others live a life of luxury then this course will go some way to explaining the causes behind that. It is a challenging yet highly interesting course.

Course content

Unit 1 – Education with Theory and Methods – to include topics such as:

  • Marxism
  • Feminism
  • Postmodernism

Unit 2 – Topics in Sociology – to include topics such as:

  • Poverty, welfare & work
  • Beliefs in society

Unit 3 – Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods – to include topics such as:

  • The relationship between gender, ethnicity, class and crime

Entry requirements

At least the minimum entry requirements: English and Maths grade 5 plus three other grades at A*-C (9-4)

Assessment

100% exam at the end of Year 13.

Future opportunities

Due to the topics studied and skills developed, Sociology is a great choice of subject for people who want to work in careers such as nursing, social work, medicine, advertising, journalism, law and teaching amongst others.
