CTEC Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity at Rawlins Academy
This course represents a new vocational option to the Post-16 Sports curriculum. We offer this alongside A-Level PE and it is useful for those that enjoy Sport but do not necessary compete at the highest level.
This course aims to develop knowledge, understanding and skills of the essentials of Sport and Physical Activity. Designed in collaboration with industry experts the qualifications focus on the requirements todays employers demand. It looks in great depth at many facets of sports performance and its overall implications.
In the first year of the course, students will study three mandatory units based on Body Systems and the Effects of Physical Activity, Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership and Sports Organisation and Development. In the second year of the programme students will study other units including Performance Analysis, Biomechanics and Movement Analysis, Nutrition and Diet for Sport and Exercise, Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation and Sport and Exercise Sociology. As a result this is a wide ranging course focusing on several different elements of Sport.

Written examination, coursework, video and practical assessments.
Whilst this course focusses on the vocational side of working in the Sports Industry it is also a natural progression to sports related courses at a higher level. Students can use their knowledge from this qualification usefully in many other areas such as Leisure, Psychology, Media and the Sciences. Students in the past have gone on to university to study degrees in Physical Education, Sports Coaching, Sports and Exercise Science, Sports Psychology, Sports Development, Sports Journalism, Sports Business Management and other health related courses.
