Geography A level at Falmouth School

Course description

A-Level Geography is a modern, dynamic and engaging subject that addresses the key ideas and issues in our world today. Climate change, globalisation, rebranding and management of the world’s resources are some of the current key issues we explore. Fieldwork and research are key features of the course, both at AS and A2. We take the opportunity to get out of the classroom wherever possible and have every intention of organising an international trip during Year 12 /13. We currently visit Iceland and Italy to tie in with our work on Tectonics and Energy Security. We also carry out local field work to support water conflict, 'rebranding' and the crowded coast modals.

Future opportunities

Geography is considered an academic and well-respected A-Level qualification and is a brilliant step towards a wide range of university courses and/or employment opportunities. It can provide a useful bridge between arts and science-based subjects. Geographers can go into a wide range of jobs, including advertising, the armed forces, environmental management, finance, law, journalism, marketing, planning, retail, sales, social/health services, teaching; in fact the list is endless.
