Course description

To enhance students’ enjoyment or appreciation of the media and its role in their everyday lives and society as a whole.

To develop critical thinking and expressing opinions on social media and current affairs.

To explore media production processes technologies and concepts

To become independent and skilled in using research methods and understanding their application to the construction of media products

Consider larger issues - social media: angel or devil.

Develop practical new media skills, digital image manipulation, filming and photoshoots, lighting and audio, editing and cutting skills.

Develop thorough understanding and analysis of the news, advertising, marketing, industries and audiences.

Plan and produce your own cross-media product, combining on-line technologies with a television or music video brief.

Course content

Unit 1
A) The News. An in-depth study of the news through newspaper and inline publications.
B) Media language and representation- learnt through the study of advertising, marketing and music videos.
 
Unit 2
A) Media industries and audiences.
Understand the key roles of industry and audience through the study of radio, film and computer games.
B) Long form TV drama-in- depth analysis of TV as a global evolving media form.
 
Unit 3
Create a cross-media product, either advertising, a music video or TV programme with associated online packages.

Entry requirements

The minimum grade entry requirement is 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above to include Grade 4 or better in English and Maths.

Unit 1: Exam (1hr 45m) (35%)
Unit 2: Exam (2hrs) (35%)
Unit 3: Coursework (30%
