Biology A Level at Vandyke Upper School and Community College

Course description

This course can be studied as a one year AS or two year full course.

Course content

Biological molecules
Organisms exchange substances with their environment
Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms
Energy transfers in and between organisms (A Level only)
Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments (A Level)
Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems (A level only)
The control of gene expression (A level only)

Entry requirements

Two grade 6's at GCSE in Triple Science (one in Biology) or Combined (Trilogy) Science and a grade 5 in maths.


Each year students must complete 6 specific practical tasks that are assessed by their teachers. These are in addition to routine practical lessons and their successful completion is recognised with an endorsement shown in the final exam certificate.
