English Literature and Language A Level at Vandyke Upper School and Community College

Course description

You will be studying a combination of Language and Literature exploring imagined worlds in prose, poetic voices and the way place is represented in language and literature.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and English Literature.

Assessment

The A Level coursework unit requires students to submit a personal investigation that explores a specific technique or theme in both literary and non-literary discourse between 2500 and 3000 words. This is worth 20% of the final mark.

The A Level is assessed and the end of the course via two examinations, each worth 40% of the final mark.

Paper 1 assesses student responses to poetry and prose set texts, and the AQA anthology, Paris.
Paper 2 focuses on society and dramatic encounters, and produce a piece of re-creative writing on a set text, and response one question from a choice of two on a drama set text.
