Further Mathematics A Level at St Mary's CE High School

Course description

A variety of topics will be covered including proof, complex numbers, matrices, further
algebra and functions, further calculus, further vectors.

Entry requirements

Students will need 8 GCSEs at a grade 9‐4 including GCSE Higher Tier Maths at grade 8/9.

This course can only be studied alongside the normal Mathematics A Level.

This course is aimed at students who are expecting to attend university and
follow a course with a high mathematical content for example mathematics, science, computing, engineering or economics.

Assessment

There are 4 external written examinations, each one lasting for 1½ hours.

Paper 1: Further Pure Mathematics 1 (25%)
Paper 2: Further Pure Mathematics 2 (25%)
Paper 3: Further Mathematics

Option 1 (25%)
Paper 4: Further Mathematics Option 2 (25%)
Option 1 to be chosen from Further Pure Mathematics 3, Further Statistics 1, Further
Mechanics 1, Decision Mathematics1.

Option 2 to be chosen from Further Pure Mathematics 4, Further Statistics1 (*),
Further Statistics 2, Further Mechanics 1 (*), Further Mechanics 2, Decision
Mathematics 1 (*), Decision Mathematics 2.

(*) Note – these options can only be taken once so students must do two unique
options.

There is no coursework.
