Sport BTEC Level 3 at Ralph Allen School

Course description

BTEC Sport is for those pupils who have a major interest in sport: playing it, coaching it, umpiring it and learning about different aspects of it. It is a vocational qualification combining practical tasks with academic study. The course is delivered through varied assignment tasks, off site activities and practical activities. It is a two-year, full time course that is equivalent to 2 A levels. However, you can achieve the National Extended Certificate in sport, equivalent to one A Level, after one year.

Course content

• Sports leadership
Learners study what makes a good leader, the different capacities of this role, and the leadership skills and techniques necessary when leading activities in different roles.
• Sports injury management
Learners study the signs and symptoms of sports injuries, application of basic treatment and rehabilitation methods, injury risk factors and injury prevention.
• Sports performance analysis
Learners will study methods of performance analysis, benchmarks for performance, and practically develop and use tools for analysing performance and providing feedback.
• Practical sports performance
Learners study the skills, techniques, tactics and rules of selected sports through active participation in individual sports.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs Grade 9-5 including Physical Education Grade 9-5 or above and at least Grade 4 in Maths and English.

Future opportunities

BTEC Sport is recognised and accepted at most universities. The course will help prepare students for further courses such as: Sport Studies, Sports Development, Sports Coaching, Sport and Physical Education and Sport and Leisure
