Mathematics A Level at Ormiston Sudbury Academy

Course description

A level Maths develops the skills learnt at GCSE and moves them to the next level.

The course considers the concepts of maths ,with some applied units alongside. There are six units to be studied within the two-year course. These are comprised of four core units (C1 – C4) and two applied units made up of either mechanics, statistics or both.

The core units focus on what was traditionally called pure maths and include coordinate geometry, calculus, trigonometry, sequences, and vectors amongst others.

Mechanics is closely linked to physics and includes Newton’s Laws, moments, statics and dynamics of particles. Statistics covers data handling to a much higher level and includes hypothesis testing alongside the skills needed to analyse data.
