Sociology A Level at Queensbury Academy

Course description

If you are fascinated by the behaviour of others and why we act the way we do, then Sociology is for you! Students will learn about the main theories in Sociology and the themes which run throughout the course, such as stratification, socialisation, culture and identity. This is a new linear course. This means that students opting for an A Level in this subject will be committing to a two year linear course, with all units examined at
the end of Year 13.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 or higher in GCSE English.


There are 3 written exams at the end of year 13 covering the various content taught.

Research shows people entering the job market will change careers several times over the course of their working life. Sociology trains you to answer the ‘what, ‘how’ and ‘why’
questions about human societies, giving you a competitive edge in the job market and providing a strong intellectual background for students considering careers in the professions and business.
