Hair Professionals Diploma Apprenticeship Level 2 at Sittingbourne Technical College

Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Professional Hairdressing has been created based on employer needs and is designed by employers for learners wishing to gain an apprenticeship within the Hair Professional arena.

The Diploma will lead to the achievement of the Hairdressing Professional Standard alongside the relevant functional skills and the EPA module.

The Diplomas for the Hairdressing Professional are qualifications designed for learners who are at least 16 years old and who wish to develop the skills and knowledge needed to begin to work as a Hairdresser.

They may have previously completed a Level 1 qualification in the relevant subject area. Learners wishing to complete these qualifications will be doing so as an employed, apprentice in a real work environment.

Course content

Diplomas cover all of the core knowledge and skills needed to become a competent Hairdresser or Barber. The Hairdressing Professional Diploma provides the learner with the opportunity to develop different skills by choosing from a selection of optional units. Both qualifications also include an element of End Point Assessment (EPA).

Entry requirements

4 Ds or 3s including English and maths or a relevant full level 1.


You will be assessed a variety of different ways from direct observation, professional discussion, witness testimony and End Point Assessment.

Future opportunities

Learners achieving the Diploma in Professional Hairdressing can gain employment in a salon as a Hairdresser, carrying out day to day tasks such as:

  • customer service
  • shampooing hair
  • basic cutting
  • styling and finishing hair
  • colouring services.
