Ladies Hairdressing Diploma Level 2 (Technical Qualification) at Bradford College

Course description

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing is a Technical Qualification aimed at learners aged 16-19 who require a full-time Level 2 education programme and wish to pursue a career as an employed or self-employed junior hairdresser/stylist.

Course content

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. You will acquire knowledge of all health, safety and legislation requirements necessary for a junior hairdresser/stylist. You will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of basic cutting, colouring and lightening services.

You will develop communication and customer service skills, an awareness of environmental sustainability and commercial skills all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving and research skills will also be developed.

Mandatory units of study include:

  • Advise and Consult with Clients
  • Blow-dry and Style Hair
  • Colour and Lighten Hair
  • Cut Ladies Hair
  • Health, Safety and Hygiene
  • Set and Dress Hair
  • Shampoo, Condition and Treat the Hair and Scalp
  • Style Hair With Electrical Equipment.

Entry requirements

Level 1 Diploma in Hair and Beauty.


You will learn practical skills in excellent purpose-built training salons working in a commercial training environment. Practical knowledge will be supported by theory lessons. Assessments of practical skills will be graded Pass/Merit/Distinction in a range of unit assessments and summative Synoptic assessments. You will be required to produce a developmental portfolio and complete two external exams graded Pass/Merit/Distinction.
