Trowel Trades (Brickwork & Plastering) Extended Certificate Level 1 at Bradford College

Course description

This Level 1 course allows you to learn, develop and practise the basic skills and knowledge required to enter the construction industry.

It will also allow you to improve your Mathematics and English and reach the grades that will allow you to progress onto the next course.

Course content

This course is for you if you want to study Trowel Trades such as bricklaying and plastering and have not achieved GCSE Grade 3 or Functional Skills Level 2 in mathematics.

It is a carousel course which includes two different construction trades studied for 18 weeks each - Bricklaying and Plastering.

You will cover:

  • Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction
  • Introduction to the Construction Industry
  • Practical skills for each trade
  • Job knowledge for each trade. 


Entry requirements

You do not need to be employed.

You must be aged 16-18 and have GCSE Grades 2 or Functional Skills Entry Level 3 in Mathematics and English.

If you have a Grade D/3 or Level 2 Functional Skill you will work towards achieving a Grade A* to C/8-9 to 5-4.

You will also attend an information/taster session and you should show enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to succeed on the course.


The course is assessed by continuous practical assessments and knowledge based assessments for each unit.
