Advanced Professional Cookery BTEC Diploma Level 3 Level 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

To take your cooking skills to the next level and enhance your employability as a professional chef, this Level 3 Diploma will provide you with further expertise and abilities in the kitchen environment.Building on the foundation skills you will have developed on our Level 2 certificate or diploma, this 36-week full-time course, starting in September 2017, will give you the skills you need to further enhance your professional kitchen skills within the catering industry.You’ll learn a number of advanced preparation and cooking techniques to really deepen your level of knowledge around food. You’ll be creating dishes using a variety of vegetables, meat, poultry and fish - alongside finer ingredients like game and shellfish - and be delving even deeper into food safety for catering in the hospitality industry.

Assessment

In order to make sure you’re comfortable learning the advanced skills on this course, you’ll need to already have a Level 2 certificate or diploma in cookery, or at least 2 or 3 years’ experience working in a professional catering environment. You’ll also need to have GCSEs at grade A – C in Maths and English Language, or be working towards a level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy.

Financial information

You’ll be assessed in a number of different ways on this course, focusing on both practical synoptic assessments and graded and non-graded external examinations. You’ll also collate a service portfolio of evidence as you progress on the course.

Openshaw Campus is built at the heart of the community with an open plan design and attractive green space and water features. Sportcity and the City of Manchester Stadium are close to the campus. Sportcity has a number of sports venues and fitness and sports facilities for the public. There is a 14-screen cinema five minutes away by car or 25 minutes on foot.
