Course description

To prepare you for work in the hospitality or catering industries, this Diploma in Professional Cookery Studies will help you understand a variety of topics relevant to the industry and give you the skills you’ll need get a promising job in this sector.The six mandatory units during this 36-week full-time course, starting in September 2017 will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of food safety and health and safety awareness in the hospitality industry.You will learn how to prepare and cook food by boiling, stewing, braising, baking, roasting, grilling, and frying. The optional units give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding in a range of sectors within the hospitality and catering industry including healthier diets and an introduction into how to use kitchen equipment.

Throughout this course, you will build a portfolio of work. You will also be assessed through practical tests in a realistic working environment.

    • Wythenshawe Campus was opened in 2010 and offers a wide range of courses for school leavers and adults, including construction and motor vehicle. The campus is built to be environmentally friendly and has innovative technology to save energy and re-use resources. These include solar panels, wind catchers for natural ventilation and rainwater harvesting tanks.

      Facilities at Wythenshawe Campus include:

      Local area

      Wythenshawe is a suburb of south Manchester. Wythenshawe Campus is built in the centre of the community, 15 minutes’ walk from the civic centre. The campus has it own gardens and places to sit outside, while Wythenshawe itself has several large parks and woodlands. The civic centre has a supermarket, shops, post office and fast food chains and there are some smaller shops opposite the campus. The campus is just over two miles from Wythenshawe Park; a beautiful green space with community farm and historic buildings.
