Business Cambridge Level 2 at Queens Park Community School

Course description

The qualification consists of five compulsory units which provide learners with a general foundation plus five specialist units which explore more diverse areas of business. This will enable you to develop your research skills as you work, both independently and with colleagues, to progress through your qualifications. The assessment for the qualifications is task-based, so you won’t need to take exams. Some tasks will be assessed through practical activities such as work-experience.
 
This qualification enables students to develop skills and attributes which will support them in a range of business environments. The course will promote development of the skills required for customer service, personal and business finance, working in teams, administration, aspects of business on-line and business start-up.
 
All students will be expected to complete a compulsory 2 week work placementduring the Spring Term.

Entry requirements

Cambridge Technical courses lead to vocational qualifications providing a work focused alternative to GCSEs and A Levels. They have been designed to give you opportunities to develop and demonstrate the practical application of knowledge and understanding of business. Students should have a standard of literacy and numeracy demonstrated by at least four GCSEs at grade 3 or D or equivalent, including Mathematics and English
GCSEs at grade 3.

Assessment

There are no examinations in this course. You have to work hard to produce quality portfolios for all ten units. You will be set assignments to complete which will guide you through producing the evidence for assessments. Each assignment will be written in a vocational context and may take the form of one or a combination of the following:
 
A performance task e.g. a presentation or a role-play
 
A practical activity; e.g. setting up a business/ presenting a business plan
 
A research tasks; e.g. carrying out questionnaires or surveys,
interviewing business
representatives or general public, using websites to extract specific information
A case study e.g. focus on a real
-
life business situation
A report or other type of document
Each unit will be graded individually. At the end of the
course, you can be awarded Pass,
Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

Future opportunities

This course provides a route to employment into the many diverse areas of business. You also have the option of progressing onto our BTEC Level 3 qualifications in Personal and Business Finance and/or Business. With further training or study you may progress into Business related careers such as Accounting, Administration, Customer Service, Finance, IT, Human Resources or Sales.
