Geography AS Level at Queens Park Community School

Course description

This is a course for students with an interest in current affairs, concern for the environment and enjoyment of travel and finding out about new people, places, landscapes and events.

Course content

Edexcel have classified geography into four core themes:
Dynamic Planet (AS Level)
 
Topic 1: Tectonic Processes and Hazards Overview Tectonic hazards
Topic 2: Landscape Systems, Processes and Change Option
2A: Glaciated Landscapes & Change; 2B: Coastal Landscapes & Change
Dynamic Places (AS Level)
Topic 3: Globalisation
Topic 4: Shaping Places
4A: Regenerating Places; and 4B: Diverse Places
Political Systems and Sustainability
Topic 5: The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity
Topic 6: The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security
Human Systems and Geopolitics
Topic 7: Superpowers
Topic 8: Global Development and Connections
8A: Health, Human Rights & Intervention; 8B: Migration, Identity & Sovereignty
 
For AS you will study at least one core physical geography theme and one core human geography theme.

Entry requirements

At least a grade 5 in a humanities subject and in science, an interest in current affairs,
concern for the environment and enjoyment of travel and finding out about new people,
places, landscapes and events.

Future opportunities

Geography teaches you to collect, analyse and interpret data which are skills valued by
employers and universities across a range of fields. Because Geography has a human and physical side, it combines well with science or arts subjects to support courses
like Biology, Engineering, Business, Law, Media and Politics.
