Course description

Or perhaps you already know that you want a career in this sector but you want to develop the skills that recruiters will look for. If so, this course will be suitable for you.

Course content

To achieve the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Public Services, you must complete
three mandatory units:

Government, Policies and the Public Services
Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services
Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services
 

and optional units taken from a wide range of choice which might include:

 
Physical Preparation,
Health and Lifestyle for the Public Services
Police Powers
Understanding the Impact of War, Conflict and Terrorism on Public Service

Entry requirements

Ideally, you will have 4 GCSEs at Grades C or above. However, all applications will be
considered on an individual basis and, above all, you will need to have an interest in and enthusiasm for the modules chosen for this qualification.

Assessment

You will do lots of group work and practical activities throughout the course. You will also
complete individual research. Visiting speakers from public services such as the Royal Navy, the RAF, the Police Force and the Fire Service will be invited to speak to you and visits to public service organisations will be arranged. Assessment is continuous. You will have a number of internally assessed coursework assignments to complete.

Future opportunities

The course provides a good foundation for either further Public Services related studies at college or university or as a qualification to support a career in: the Army; the Navy; the RAF; the Police Force; the Fire Service; the Ambulance Service; the Civil Service; Social Work; Criminology; Personnel Management; Teaching; and the list goes on...
