Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework - Vehicle Fitting Principles (Fast Fit) at Wakefield College

Course description

Are you interested in a career as a vehicle fitting technician, repairing and replacing vehicle components such as tyres, exhausts, batteries and other parts often while the customer waits? If so, this course will give you a good grounding in both theory and practice, whilst equipping you with the necessary skills to succeed in this fast-paced environment working at awarding body standards.

Course content

What you will study 

You will complete several units which may contain any of the following;

* Health & Safety
* Maintain Positive Working Relationships
* Workplace Housekeeping
* Knowledge and skills of inspection, repair and replacement of High Performance Light Vehicle Tyres
* Knowledge and skills of inspection, repair and replacement of Light Vehicle Exhaust systems and components
* Knowledge and skills of inspection, repair and replacement of Light Vehicle Suspension dampers and springs
* Knowledge and skills of inspection, repair and replacement of Light Vehicle Braking Systems and Components

*Units may change depending upon employment requirements.

Maths and English are key elements of any role within the motor industry. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*- C (or new grade 9-4) in these subjects, you will need to attend sessions generally on a block release basis. These are varied and designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you.

Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship, assisting you with assignment writing, research, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at A*- D (or new grade 9-3)
Level 1 vehicle fitting/maintenance or equivalent with English and Maths at a minimum of Entry 3


You’ll be assessed through practical tasks conducted in our mechanical workshops and externally set and externally marked, online theory assessments.

There are no costs to students aged between 16 and 18.

      The Castleford Campus (previously known as the skillsXchange) houses the College’s provision in Construction, Motor Vehicle, Engineering, Hair and Beauty, IT and some Care and replaces the training which was previously offered at the College’s Whitwood Campus.

      Located at Junction 32 of the M62 between Castleford and Pontefract, the site is well known for Xscape, the indoor ski slope whose building houses a 14-screen cinema, bowling alley, climbing wall, sports facilities and restaurants. The Campus is situated directly next to the Asda in Glasshoughton.

      A learning resource centre, equipped with the very latest in technology, is a superb place for individual study, or to relax and use the internet. The Centre overlooks the large external courtyard, where students can mix, mingle and chill.

      In state-of-the-art hair and beauty salons, including a nail bar, we are training the next generation of hairdressers and beauticians. These professional salons offer live training environments to our students, with treatments for both men and women available at affordable prices. There are also industry standard facilities for the study of construction and engineering, motor vehicle and electrical courses.
