Level 2 Bricklaying at Keighley College
The Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying builds on the content of the Foundation Learning programme in Brickwork, further developing your knowledge and skills in College rather than in a working environment.
You will learn by a series of extended practical exercises in well-equipped workshops backed up by relevant classroom theory. This includes learning all aspects of basic brickwork including mixing mortar, cutting components and laying bricks and blocks.
You will cover the following topics:
Carry out safe working practices in construction
Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others
Building methods and construction technology
Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures
Thin joint masonry and masonry structures
Construct solid and cavity walling
You also study Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English if required.
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or E including Maths or English, a Foundation Diploma (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade D-G), NVQ1 or satisfactory completion of a Foundation Learning programme with a minimum of 37 credits (at level 1).
In all cases we interview you to assess your ability to benefit from the course.
If you are under 19 and you do not already have English & Maths GCSE grades A-C or equivalent you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills alongside your main qualification.
Your progress is assessed throughout the year. You will develop a variety of construction skills which will be tested by practical demonstration of your competence throughout the course.
You will also undertake written assessments and sit an online exam.
You can progress to a bricklaying Diploma Level 3 offered at Keighley College, or to a Brickwork Apprenticeship.
