Level 2 Travel and Tourism at Keighley College

Course description

This course has been developed to provide the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to prepare students for employment in the travel and tourism industry. For anyone who wishes to travel the world and get paid for it, this is a brilliant place to start!

This qualification is for anyone that would like to work within the in travel and tourism industry. The industry is dynamic, vibrant and exciting to work in as you will get to meet and work with a wide range of people and potentially, travel across the country and the world.
Travel and tourism has a vast range of opportunities, enabling you to work both in the UK and overseas. Upon completion of this course, you will leave with the confidence, experience and employability skills needed to thrive in the in the travel and tourism industry.

Course content

  • Worldwide travel and tourism destination
  • Customer service and selling skills for travel and tourism
  • Travel and tourism support services
  • Resort Representatives
  • Tourist information services
  • Meet and greet in travel and tourism services
  • Planning an event 

The Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications given you an insight into the many different parts of the industry, from the importance of customer service to the role and responsibilities of a resort representative and the air cabin crew.  The courses include exploring customer service and the overseas resort representative, how to display products and services, planning a trip to a visitor attraction, scheduled, chartered and low cost airlines and planning for your career in the industry.

Entry requirements

You will normally need to have at least one of the following:
At least 1 GCSE at grade C, preferably in English.
A BTEC foundation certificate in a related subject
If you are under 19 and you do not already have English & Maths GCSE grades A-C or equivalent you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills alongside your main qualification.

Assessment

You are continually assessed throughout the course with one-to-one tutorials to check on your progress. There will be a range of different assessment techniques used throughout the course.  This could include assignment reports, presentations, role-plays and interviews. This will also include some external exams.

Future opportunities

Provided you can achieve at least merit grades, you can progress to Travel and Tourism Level 3 Diploma.  You could also progress onto the European Work Placement programme or apply directly for work.
