Level 1 Hair and Beauty at Keighley College
The main purpose of the VTCT Level 1 Award in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ) is to enable learners to develop hair and beauty skills, techniques and knowledge, which will prepare learners to progress to the next level of vocational learning.
This qualification will enable learners to develop the practical hair and beauty skills and techniques required to create a total look, as well as the knowledge behind such techniques.
To be awarded this qualification you must achieve the one mandatory unit (Create a hair and beauty image using colour) and a minimum of one optional unit.
Learners will also have the opportunity to explore and practice skills from a range of technical optional units including:
- Hand and nail care
- Make-up application
- Nail art
- Face painting
- Blow-dry hair
- Shampoo and condition hair
- Plaiting hair
- Colour hair using temporary colour
Additionally, if you do not already have English & Maths GCSE grades 4-9 or equivalent you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills alongside your main qualification.
No formal entry requirements are necessary, but students must demonstrate a commitment to learning, be motivated and enthusiastic, with an ability to talk to others effectively.
Your knowledge and understanding in these units will be collected in a portfolio of evidence.
Guidance for this will come from your assessor. Your assessor may also ask questions to confirm your knowledge and understanding.
Your assessor will also observe your practical performance in one assessment. Your grade will be determined by achievement of assessment criteria and achievement of additional performance standards.
On completion of this qualification, you will be able to progress to further learning in either of the qualifications listed below:
VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing
VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
