Course description
PROGRAMME AIM:
A-level Art and Design provides students with opportunities to develop personal
responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures in practical, critical and contextual forms.
This four-unit specification, two at AS level and two at A2, requires students to develop their ability to show a range of skills.
CONTENT:
Year 12 Unit 1:
Coursework Portfolio
Students explore a range of media for example painting, printmaking, chalk pastel and a range of drawing techniques.
Year 12 Unit 2:
Externally Set Assignment
Students must create a response to an externally set topic/theme.
Year 13 Unit 3:
Personal Investigation
Students specialise in their chosen theme.
A written essay is also required.
Year 13 Unit 4:
A2 Externally Set Assignment
Students must create a response to an externally set topic/theme.
Entry requirements
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS / SUITABILITY:
Grade B or above in GCSE Art.
Skills required include:
? Independence of mind in developing their own ideas.
? An interest and enthusiasm for art and design.
? The experience of working with a range of media, including traditional and new media and technologies.
? An awareness of different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of art and design practice.
? Someone who has patience, commitment and passion for the subject.
