Level 3 Access to Higher Education – Education at Henley College Coventry

Course description

This course is for students who are 18 and over

The Access to Higher Education course prepares you to study at university and is also widely recognised by employers. It is designed for those who have left school without the usual qualifications such as A Levels.

The hours of study consist of 12 mandatory class contact hours per week and you  will also need to commit to self-study outside of class times.

You will be studying a range of units that will make up 45 credits and will cover :

  • Education Practice,
  • Education Studies and Childhood Studies
  • The Developing Child
  • Child Protection
  • Education in Practice
  • Teaching Practice
  • Behavioural Studies

You may also have the option to substitute some of the units to cover elements of Science or Psychology.
You will be expected to complete a short work placement in a relevant setting which the college will support you to find. In addition to the 45 credits above a further 15 credits will be gained from skills for learning which includes preparing for a written assignment, preparing for a higher education admission interview and progressing to higher education.

You will be assessed via a range of methods including essays, reports, presentations, projects and examinations.

Upon successful completion of the course, you can progress to university to study degree level courses in Early Years Education, teaching or other education based courses. You could also progress to careers in teaching or childcare.
