French AS Edexcel at Longdean School

Course description

 This is a course aimed at improving and developing your skills in French. During the course, you will study a variety of topics such as: • Youth Culture and Concerns • Lifestyle: Health & Fitness • World Around Us: Travel/Tourism/Environmental issues and the French Speaking World • Education and Employment.  You will be assessed at the end of the academic year. (two units)The assessment will include: listening, reading authentic short or long French texts, speaking in French and writing essays in French.

Entry requirements

GCSE French at grade A and GCSE English at grade B or above.

Future opportunities

Students may wish to continue studying French after AS. The A2 course offers students a chance to develop their speaking skills further. Not only can students focus on translation but there is also an opportunity to work towards preparing for a research based essay. There are many careers which welcome people with language skills .For example, Translation, Banking, Aviation, Law, Teaching, International sales. Modern Foreign Language A Levels are seen as facilitating subjects by the Russell group of universities. Many students combine a language with business, law or IT. Language skills are highly prized by employers in general and may  lead  to foreign travel and job opportunities abroad.
