Adult Social Care - CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care at Calderdale College

Course description

The aim of this qualification is to introduce knowledge in areas relating to Adult Social Care, such as person centred approaches, duty of care and the role of a Social Care worker. This course is accessible to students of all ages.

Course content

This qualification provides an ideal starting point for learners who may be new to the sector or new to the world of Social Care work. It is accessible to learners of all ages, who may want to understand more about working in Health & Social Care. It aims to introduce the basic concepts of caring and preparing for employment in this sector

Various methods are used including classroom activities, guest speakers and visits.

Entry requirements

Learners must be 16 years and above, school leavers will need a GCSE grade D in English or a Level 1 Functional/Key Skills English qualification. Learners will also need to provide 2 references and complete a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.


The course is unit based and is assessed by the production of a portfolio of evidence.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course can lead on to the Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care, Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care, Level 3  Diploma in Childcare & Education and Level 3 Extended ( or 90 credit ) Diploma in Health & Social Care. Learners aged 19 and over can also progress on to the Access to HE: Combined Studies or Access to HE: Health Professions courses.
Learners may also wish to complete the level 2/ 3 Certificate in supporting individuals with learning Disabilities
