Computing and IT Access Diploma Level 3 at Waltham Forest College

Course description

If you are looking to gain knowledge in a variety of Computing and IT subjects and intend to progress onto higher education, then this is the ideal course for you.

Access courses are designed for those who have been out of education for period of time, or those who have recently completed secondary school but did not gain any Level 3 qualifications.

You should also apply if you gained a Level 2 qualification in a related subject at a college.

Course content

The Access Diploma consists of 60 credits at Level 3.

To gain the qualification you need to pass all of the following units:

Programming - Introduction to visual programming
Programming - Sequential programming concepts
Programming - writing modular programmes
Spread sheets
Internet Technology
Human Resources Management
Self-Assessment and Personal Tutorial

Communication - Speaking and Listening
Research Project - Methodology 
Business Structure and the uses of IT in Business

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for an Access Diploma but you do need to be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course. 
You will be required to take an electronic assessment in both English (literacy) and Mathematics (numeracy). You will then be interviewed by a member of our teaching team, who will make a decision on your suitability for the course. This will be based on the results of your assessments and your answers to the questions posed during the interview.

Learners are assessed using a variety of methods, including:

Computer-based exams

Future opportunities

The College offers a range of Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) in Computing and Systems Development. This equates to the first 2 years of university study. Your Personal Tutor will make you aware of these, as well as the various university degrees on offer in London and the rest of the UK.

      Trains run to Walthamstow Central from Liverpool Street station (a bus can then be taken to the College, see below). Wood Street station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the College.

      Tube:

      The Victoria Line ends at Walthamstow Central, which is approximately a 15-minute walk to the College. Alternatively, you can get a bus, see below.

      Bus:

      From Walthamstow Central:Bus 275 stops outside the College, 212 stops across the road from the College (Shernhall Street). Buses 97, 357, 34 or 215 stop at the 'Bell Corner' (junction of Hoe Street and Forest Road). From here, the College is approximately five-minute walk.

      From Blackhorse Road Tube Station: Bus 123 also stops outside the College on route between Tottenham and Ilford
