Health Studies A Level at Holy Cross Sixth Form College
At AS the following units of work are covered:
Exam unit 1 - Promoting Quality Care and Communication - The aim of this unit is to understand how care workers provide appropriate care for individuals to ensure they have a good quality of life. A range of care settings are covered. This accounts for 40% of your final AS mark.
Coursework unit 2 - Promoting Good Health - This unit looks at factors that influence individual health and wellbeing. Preventative measures used to avoid ill health are also studied. This accounts for 60% of your final AS mark.
At A2 you will cover the following units:
Controlled assessment unit 7: - Provision of Health, Social Care and Children's Services -This unit focuses on service provision in the local area, practitioners in health and social care and quality assurance. This accounts for 40% of your final A2 mark.
Coursework unit 9: - Working in Health and Social Care – the following topics are covered in this internally assessed unit: the main employment sectors, job roles of practitioners, the qualifications and skills needed by practitioners, caring skills and techniques. This unit makes up 60% of the final A2 grade.
General college entry requirements. In addition, you will need English and Science GCSE at grade C. If you have previously studied Health and Social Care at GCSE level you must have achieved at least a grade C. If you have studied BTEC Health you need to have achieved at least a Merit.
This course enhances applications to a wide range of health related professions such as:
- Social Work
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech Therapy
It also enables entry into general degree related studies such as:
- English Language
- Sports Therapy.
