Design and Technology Product Design (3D Design) AS Level at Exeter College

Course description

This course enables you to take a broad view of design and technology, develop your capacity to design and make products and appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.

You will:

  • Develop creative solutions to design problems through independent thinking and practical exploration of process and materials
  • Understand which materials and components can be manipulated and manufactured through hands on experience
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the broader issues for the designer such as environmental sustainability of products and their manufacture and ergonomics
  • Develop an understanding of the physical and mechanical properties of materials and components

Assessment is by coursework and examinations.

Entry requirements

You need five GCSEs at grade C or above (including English language and maths) and three GCSEs at grade D or above, and grade C or above in design technology. If this has not been achieved, then a project can be undertaken to demonstrate your suitability for the course.
