FINE ART - Painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and alternative media.
Fine Art is a creative subject in which students are required to experiment and explore the visual world around them using a range of media. Individuality and personal expression lie at the heart of much of the work produced in the Art Department.
A grade C or above at GCSE in the subject or related subject you wish to take at AS level
Skills development in term 1 followed by an externally set task.: A 10 hour exam where students must realise their ideas into a final outcome. The early release paper will be issued on 1 January and will provide learners with a number of themes. Within the themes, there will be a choice of written and visual starting points, briefs and stimuli. 100%
A Personal Investigation which has two integrated elements: a portfolio of practical work and a related study which explores the context in which their chosen practical area of study exists. This includes an extended response of a minimum of 1000 words. 60%
An externally set task: a 15 hour exam where students must realise their ideas into a final outcome. There is a choice of themes for the Externally set task, which are open to all specialisms. Each theme offers a choice of textual and visual starting points, briefs and stimuli. 40%
You are able to visit exhibitions, art galleries and museums.

After completing your A level course, if you want a career in the visual arts you could go on to do a one year foundation course which is a stepping stone to higher education.
