Outdoor Adventure Level 3 Extended Diploma at Writtle University College

Course description

This advanced level course will provide you with an academic understanding and the practical skills required for the delivery and leadership of outdoor adventure activities. The course will also prepare you for working with athletes and individuals in the fitness industry.

The course will also include Level 2 outdoor and fitness industry.

Students are expected to undertake and complete various outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hill walking, overnight camps, kayaking and climbing, and expected level of competence and attendance is needed to pass these elements. Some financial cost may be incurred for some basic equipment such as walking boots.

Course content

Practical sports study, physiology, leading land and water based adventure activities, outdoor adventure equipment and outdoor expeditions.

Entry requirements

Standard entry is five GCSEs at grade A-C to include English, Science, and Mathematics. It is also preferable that you have GCSE P.E. However, alternative qualifications or experience will be considered on application.

Assessment

Various forms of written and practical assessment.

Future opportunities

Progress to a higher level qualification such as a degree programme in Outdoor Adventure Activities and Sports & Exercise Performance or undertake an Apprenticeship programme.

It is also possible to find employment in Outdoor Adventure facilities or the health and fitness side of the sports industry, for example, as an activities leader, outdoor sports organiser, corporate adventure activities leader, coach/assistant coach, trainer.
