A2 Level Geography at Nether Stowe School

Course description

AQA A Level Geography is a 2 year course which looks at both the physical structure of the planet and the social structure.

Course content

The A level Geography course will include the study of:

Component 1:  Physical Geography

  • Water and carbon cycles
  • Coastal systems and landscapes. 
  •  Hazards 

Component 2:  Human Geography

  • Global systems
  • Changing places
  • Contemporary urban deveopments

Component 3:  Geographical Invesigation

Fieldwork will be carried out at Preston Montford Field Study Centre where students will choolse their own particular field of study and create their own investigation.



Entry requirements

Grade 6 or above in GCSE Geography and a grade 6 in GCSE English Language.


Component 1: Physical Geography

Written exam 2 hours 30 minutes = 40%

Component 2: Human Geography

Written exam 2 hours 30 minutes = 40%

Component 3: Geographical Investigation (20%)

Students complete an individual investigation of 4,000 words which must include data collected in the field. Marked by teachers, moderated by AQA.

Future opportunities

According to the Royal Geographical Society, Geography graduates have some of the highest rates of graduate employment.

The A level course will help to develop your communication and teamwork skills along with your research and analysis skills including IT, lab and fieldwork which means you will be able to collect and look for patterns in data which is highly regarded by employers.

Geography is suitable for any kind of career that involves the environment. planning or collecting and interpreting data. Popular careers include town or transport planning, surveying, conservation and tourism.
