Business BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Redland Green School

Course description

This course will give you the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the business sector or to progress onto higher education. This course is assessed mainly via coursework although there is one exam, and you will complete 8 units over the 2 years. The teaching of this qualification may be split between the two centres, Cotham School and Redland Green School.

Course content

It covers a broad range of business topics, from personal and business finance to principles of management and marketing as well as managing an event. Each topic will be taught in a real business context, and you will visit, study and investigate local and national businesses.

6 Mandatory Units.

-  Exploring Business – internal assignment

-  Managing an event – internal assignment

-  International Business – internal assignment

-  Developing a marketing campaign –externally controlled coursework.

-  Principles of Management – externally controlled coursework.

-  Personal and Business Finance – external exam.

Entry requirements

NBP16C level 3 entry requirement. If you are a post 16 student with a one year level 2 vocational qualification the minimum requirement is a Merit.


Teacher-led activities, individual and group work, presentations, debates, role-play and simulations and the comprehensive use of ICT. There is a focus on developing real world insights into businesses which may be supported by guest speakers and company visits.

Future opportunities

A BTEC level 3 diploma in business will give you a broad understanding of key themes of today’s rapidly changing business world. In-depth course work and detailed research into a range of businesses will give you a real insight into how businesses operate. Consequently, the course is a good basis for entering employment in the business sector, but also carries UCAS points so can be used as a stepping stone into higher education.
