A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies at Leeds West Academy

Course description

This course is ideal for students who have a keen interest in Drama and the processes involved in constructing plays and exploring characters. In the first year, students will practically explore drama through improvisations, role plays and discussions, and will devise their own piece of original theatre: they will be given a set stimulus and will perform to an invited audience. In the second year of the course, students will study a play and perform a section of it to a visiting examiner. Students will also be assessed through a written essay which outlines how they approached the devising process. The final written exam will assess knowledge of two set texts and will also include writing a review of a live performance.
