Level 2 Certificate in Specialist Support In Schools at Henley College Coventry

Course description

This course covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting those with disabilities or special education needs and communication and professional relationships.

It is aimed at students working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools. You will study a range of units based around supporting others with their learning.

The course is made up of mandatory and optional units which are based on knowledge and skills. The units will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in the school environment.

A mandatory placement (one day per week) will be required as part of this course. Help to arrange these placements will be provided. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: direct observation of practice, professional discussion, reflection on own practice in real work situations or by set tasks.

On completion of this qualification you can progress to various job roles, dependent on your chosen pathway such as classroom assistant.

You can also progress on to the level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or the level 3 Early Years Educator.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs Grade D-G with a D in English or maths or a level 1 Diploma and a satisfactory reference and a successful interview with a member of the childcare team.
