No matter which route you follow this business courses can help you prepare for further and higher education. They prepare you for AS/A2 Levels as well as BTEC and NVQ courses in many different subjects. You will become skilled in making decisions, being creative, solving problems, understanding fi nance, dealing with data, communicating and working as part of team. Even if you do not want to go on to study business further you will have benefi ted from studying a GCSE Business course because many job you do will involve working for a business. However, a GCSE Business course could lead to work in a business-related profession such as accountancy, law, marketing or the leisure and tourism industry. Assessment % breakdown (controlled assessment and external exam) • Unit One – Setting Up a Business (40% external examination) • Unit Two –Growing as a Business (35% external examination) • Unit Three –Investigating Business (25% internally assessed coursework) Tiers on entry There are two tiers – Foundation (maximum grade C) and Higher (D-A*) Requirements for A level/ Laswap To carry on to the single A Level at LaSwap you need to achieve a minimum of grade C. Description of course While studying the fi rst two units of this course you are likely to learn a lot of new things. You will be introduced to the world of small businesses and will look at what makes someone a successful business person. You will fi nd out how to develop an idea and spot an opportunity, and turn that into a successful business. You will understand how to make a business effective and manage money well. You will also see how the world around us affects small businesses and all the people involved. Year 10 Unit One – Setting Up a Business (40% external examination) Year 11 Unit Two –Growing as a Business (35% external examination) Unit Three –Investigating Business (25% internally assessed coursework) Events / trips / residential information You will participate in various business trips to both large multi nationals and smaller local businesses. You will also have to attend presentations given by guest speakers from various businesses around London.
