Course description

OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technicals in Business (Diploma which is equivalent to 2 A Levels)

Course content

The course will take up 12 lessons per week and it is of a Vocational nature, which means that it has many work related elements.  You may be required to engage in work experience relevant to the course that will help you complete certain areas of the course.  You will be studying the equivalent to 2 A Levels.  The following 10 units will be delivered over 2 years:

Mandatory Units:

Unit 1 - The Business Environment - Exam

Unit 2 - Working in Business - Exam

Unit 3 - Business Decisions - Exam

Unit 4 - Customers and Communication - Coursework internally assessed

Unit 5 - Marketing and Market Research - Coursework internally assessed

Unit 9 - Creative Product Promotion - Coursework internally assessed

A further 4 optional coursework units will be selected for year 13; possibly including: unit 11 Internet marketing in Business, unit 15 Developing teams in business, unit 16 Aspects of contract and business law, plus one other unit.

 

Entry requirements

You must have achieved at least a grade C or above in English and 3 other GCSE subjects and a grade B for Mathematics.

If you have a GCSE in Business it is an advantage but not a requirement.

Assessment

You will be required to complete 10 units over the 2 years with the course made up of 30% exam and 70% coursework.  This will require you to adhere to very strict deadlines.

Future opportunities

The 2 year course is suitable for students who want to carry out a route into Accountancy or Business.  The Diploma is designed to be the substantiative part of your timetable for learners who want a strong core of sector study.  This programme may include other BTEC Nationals or A Levels to support progression to higher education courses in Business areas before entering employment.  This qualification can also be used to progress to Higher Apprenticeships.
