Art and Design - Foundation BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Yorkshire Coast College

Course description

The Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is the nationally respected qualification required by most established art schools for entry to Higher Education study and is the ideal bridge between A-level or Level 3 study and Undergraduate Art and Design study at University.

If you would like to join some of our previous Alumni at top Art Schools such as: Goldsmith’s, Chelsea, Wimbledon, Glasgow, Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester and Newcastle this is the course for you.

Course content

Our experienced lecturers, many of who are practicing Artists and Designers with regional , national and international experience, will encourage you to explore the world of Art & Design in an intense and experimental way.

Drawing will remain a core focus to all study, including analytical, experimental and life drawing, however the course will also develop around your own specialism as you move towards a final term, public exhibition.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 1 A Level (or equivalent) plus 3 GCSEs at Grade C including English plus portfolio of work. Mature learners with relevant experience will be considered on the basis of a portfolio of work.

Future opportunities

After successful completing the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art & Design students can progress onto further study in the higher education sector, including graphic design, packaging, multimedia, film and video, film and animation, fine art painting/sculpture/media, interior design, architecture, media and cultural studies.

Student may also decide to stay with Yorkshire Coast College and study for BA (Hons) Fine Art at our renowned Westwood Campus.

Following futher study, former Art & Design learners have gone on to successfully take their creative skills out into the workplace, establishing some of our region’s most dynamic businesses and starting exciting careers as Fashion Retailers, Web Designers and even as Practicing Artists themselves.

      Refectory and Square Cat Café

      Our refectory at Lady Edith's Drive is the perfect place to relax and unwind, whether you want a quick snack, a healthy lunch or just to catch up with friends. Breakfast is served every weekday from 8.30am until 11am, after this a huge choice foods are available including a range of premium sandwiches, pizzas, salads, paninis, and jacket potatoes. Our two campuses each have their own refectories. 

      The Square Cat Café at Westwood is a great place to catch-up with friends. We offer hot and cold drinks and snacks. From time-to-time you might even catch a live performance from performing arts students.

      Our Learner Engagement Team also provide other activities across both sites throughout the year.

      Common Room

      The learner common room on Lady Edith's Campus is located on the ground floor and near the LRC. Here you can relax with your friends and play a game or pool and our Learner Engagement team are always on hand to help you or provide information on a range of activities they are organising. 

      Learning Resource Centre

      We have two interactive Learning Resource Centres across Yorkshire Coast College providing lending, reference and information services and offering you the chance to utilise the latest technologies and study aids. Our Learning Centres are also linked to the British Library, meaning no matter what you need, you will always have access to it. 

      ICT, Moodle & Wifi

      Yorkshire Coast College has a great range of academic facilities for both students and staff. Feel free to check books out from our libraries and use our professional printing services amongst our many other facilities at Yorkshire Coast College.

      Computing Services

Both practical and theoretical study will play a major part in your course giving you a wide range of skills and knowledge, while working with the latest technologies.

      Printing Services

      Our Repro facility offers both students and the general public, first class business stationery, educational printing as well as a host of photographic and print finishing services, including both black and white and full colour prints.
