Course description

What do you need?A lively, inquiring mind.An imagination that can contemplate the tiniest particle inside an atom, as well as the vastness of space.Analytical skills – including a good pass at GCSE Maths.Scientific knowledge and skills – preferably grade A*A*, AA or BB in the GCSE Science Double Award. What are the aims of the course?To study the ideas of forces, energy, electricity and magnetism, the nature of matter, atoms and radiation. To think how these ideas shape the natural universe we inhabit and the world of technology we have built. To develop practical skills in using apparatus, handling data and interpreting it, and communicating results.We hope you will enjoy finding out about Physics, looking at its effects on our lives and environment, and gaining skills and knowledge to equip you for life and work at the highest level. It’s up to you to take up this challenge!

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Chemistry and Biology or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Physics, which could lead onto higher education in a science related subject or more general higher education courses.With further training, you could go into a job related to Physics such as Science Technician or Electronics Engineer. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
